would they ban you from using motorized boats in the canals and waterways......
This is the most rediculus by-law that they can ever pass. I mean geez what about us fisherman? This is a city that the tax dollars keep rising and rising and rising, For What? to work at a call center? I admit i used to live in Welland, About 6 years ago When there was places to work(besides call centers), and when the tax dollars were almost 10% cheaper then what they are now. Now you cant even take your boat out for a ride, Or have a Bon-Fire Might as well put a barb wire fence around the city and re-name it to The Welland County Prison.
Just my two cents ;D

This has been an ongoing conversation for a mointh now on another Messageboard and here is my last post of thoughts about this ban.
I've been quiet about this topic lately, but today while I was at the Canal, I didn't see anything going on other than a guy on a sea-doo and a crap load of shore fisher-people and two kayaks.
Now I dont know if any of you other residents (of Welland) have been down on the banks of the Canal lately but I have, and noone is missing the motorboats or seadoos, the canal has had more people frequenting the banks of the canal to fish with their kids and non-motorboats have been on the canal (not mine yet).
Now..........I do admitt that I agree with some of the comments on this board in regards to the reasonings of why the City Of Welland shouldn't close the canal to motor boats, but in the long run, a handful of local fisherman that actually use the canal in a safe manner ain't going to change what the city of Welland has decided on, and I have to agree with the City, cause it's about time and now more of the general public and kids can enjoy the canal while it's rehabilitation project finally floats rather than sinks.
This can help Welland.
My father and grandparents moved to Welland from Italy in 1958 and they have lived in the same house on Fifth St. this whole time (47 years) and FISHED the same Welland canal banks this whole time. They also agree with the ban on the canal from the motors as I do and I have only been here for 23 years. It's been an on going problem with the inconsiderate people on the canal for YEARS!!
Some people brought up the fact that why not use the Welland River, well me as a Canoeist, I do use the Welland River but maybe the general public doesnt want to use it for the simple fact that they live in rural Welland and they want to just take their kids on a row boat/canoe/kayak to go for a short venture through the water that flows throught Welland.
I hope I didn't piss too much people off here that frequent this board, but this can only help the city rather than hurt it. (my opinion)

I can somehwhat agree with you Frank,But at the same time I disagree. They should just pay somebody 10 bucks an hour to catch and fine those speeders and violators, But no they just go they easy way out and shut em down. BUt like I said before I used to live in Welland. lol I really just can't believe they would actually do it thats all.

Well, I went to the Welland City Council meeting yesterday and all i am saying is WOW!! that was the coolest experience. (I sat right behind John Levick)
My comments about this night is:
There was alot of very good points that were brought up on both sides, but when it came down to the wire, the anti motor protesters had the best argument. the only thing that really got me mad was that I couldnt hear anything for the first while because people who want to fight this cant just be quiet and listen, I realize that people want to voice their opinions on the matter (and they should) but the only way to get anything accomplished is to try to co-operate with the city and some people just couldn't keep quiet. I too wanted to say something but they werent going to listen to me anyways.
I thought John Levick & Bill Marr did Great presentations, and the third guy too, ( can't remember name sorry)
Just for the record, the canoe accident that took the lives of the two Welland men, (last year i belive) had alcohol involved and someone elses case of bad judgement should not be strewn about to make all canoes and canoeist's dangerous and same goes for all boaters and jet skiers. after being there today, this whole argument over the canal is the stupidest thing ever, this shouldnt be happening, we should all share the canal waterway and personally like I said before, yes it is nice to be able to go on the canal, but in the long run, i rather go on the Welland river where it is more scenic and peacefull.

Nahh dont put them in teh river, it will ruin the river, keep them in the Canal, the Canal is boring anyways, ive changed my mind on the whole thing, cause there is nuttin worth while to look at in the Welland Canal anyways.
